If you give a boy horseback riding lessons, you'll have to buy him a helmet.
You'll start spending one hour a week at the barn.
You'll learn words like "latigo" and "hackamore" and "tacking up."
You'll quickly realize that he's destined for agriculture, and that riding once a week is sort of like taking piano lessons and not owning a piano.
So you'll make the boy start doing jobs and saving money, because this isn't a cheap lifestyle.
Before you know it, the back of your van will look like a tack room and smell like leather, horse sweat, dirt, and horse treats. And in a strange way, this will be quite satisfying.
After you get the horse, you'll realize that you might need to take the horse places. Like maybe to races and to the vet. So you'll trade in your SUV for a truck and get a trailer.
You'll learn how to haul a trailer. And what not to do on muddy days.
You'll make your first order from Carhartt.com and wear insulated coveralls to feed the horses in the winter.
After all, it's more fun to ride together!
Once you're paying to board two horses, you'll casually start looking for land. (Because deep down inside, you knew from the very start that this was the end goal all along...)
One that has something for everyone in the family... a pool, a pasture, and even a half court basketball court for the brother who likes the horses, but likes basketball more.
And new ranch adventures in Haslet, TX!
We have horseback riding lessons up and running at our new house!
And who wants to come to RANCH SCHOOL? An outdoor academic preschool for 4 year olds and kindergartners, with a ranch theme! We teach about agriculture, sing cowboy songs, learn early math and reading skills, ride the horses, and more.
We have baby bunnies now, and chickens and goats on the way!
